Are there differences in the temperaments? Are there any that make great pets for families and others that you should steer away from?

The first thing to discuss is the different breeds of Huskies generally and how they differ from the Siberian Husky:

  • Alaskan Husky Draws their personality from their ancestral lines; however, they’re generally friendly and curious.
  • The Alaskan Malamute. They have a higher height and weight than the Siberian Huskies (23 to 25 inches and between 75-100 pounds). Alaskan Malamutes can be aggressive toward other dogs; however, They are loyal towards their owner. Since this breed has an extremely thick and long coat, it’s important to understand how to take care of the coat during the summer season to guard them against heatstroke.
  • Alaskan HuskyThis is one breed that is extremely alert and has wonderful companions. They weigh between 35 and fifty pounds. This is less than Siberian. However, they’re taller and more agile.
